Obama = OJ? Jesse Jackson Jr. thinks so

by Cecily on January 5, 2008

I wish I were making this quote from Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. up:

“The natural reminder here is O.J. [Simpson]—how does an African-American candidate attack a white woman?”

I get Jackson, Jr.’s intent, but his choice of words are suspect and deeply troubling. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that if Obama decides to increase his attacks on Clinton that some people might be inclined to read it as a black man beating up on a (poor, defenseless) white woman. If people weren’t already thinking along those lines, Jesse Jr.’s words are sure to help them along.

Being that Jackson, Jr.’s father is who he is, and knowing that Jesse, Jr. has at least a passing grasp of the history of race relations in the United States, you have to wonder what the filth flarn filth he was thinking by making such a loaded comparison.
