Ella was a fearful, floor dwelling cat when she came to live with me. Other than the aggressive peeing she was doing to exert dominance, for the most part, she lurked around the apartment in a half-squat/half walk stance that showed just how afraid she was. Seeing her perched on the back of the couch is showing me that I’m making some progress with her behaviour modification. Safe Space for Cats is a big part of the change in her behaviour, too.

Seconds after I snapped this photo, a 120 KM/h wind gust was recorded at the airport.

Spotted on a walk around the neighbourhood. It looks like two leftover pieces from a much larger piece that was partially removed from the side of a building.

I’ve been feeling like I’m on top of the world lately.

Not that I want to associate this feeling with some hackneyed old song by The Carpenters but hopefully you’ll excuse me for planting such a horrible ear worm into your brain.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Earlier in the week, my friend Anne and I were sitting on the front steps of the library having a coffee, when she brought up the idea of bringing back the Bubble Day that I loosely organized back in 2009. This year, with the Chief Librarian’s blessing and funds from our Marketing and Communications department, we used the power of our social networks to invite people to come blow bubbles on the front steps of the Central Library. Oh, we said it was to celebrate the spirit of Vancouver, and to do something to make the city feel good after such a hard week last week, but really, we just wanted to take a moment to have some fun.

I was worried when I first arrived because no one was on the steps, but because Anne sprinted around the library handing out bubbles to patrons and staff, and because of a public announcement made five minutes before noon, approximately 100 people joined us outside on an overcast day and blew bubbles. For about an hour.

I can’t lie – lately I’ve been feeling discouraged about my place in the library, but today was one of those days where I fell in love with my job, our patrons, and my colleagues all over again.

This is from a public art installation near Granville Island on the seawall. I’ve ridden past it many times, but today is the first day I actually stopped to take a photo of it.

Because of circumstances beyond my control, I’m not in Montreal this weekend like I wanted to be. To say that I’m disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover it. But I have a bubble blowing flashmob at work to look forward to tomorrow (Friday) so if you’re in the area at noon on June 24, bring your own bubbles and join in on the fun. I’ll be there snapping photos.

I’m laid up with another nasty sinus infection. I’m feverish, cranky, achy, and vertiginous, and sitting at my desk isn’t very much fun. As soon as I’m set to rights again, I’ll be posting my very first Fat Cyclist profile! Yay!

I’ve been really frustrated with my photography lately. It seems that I enjoy shooting with my iPhone more than with my other digital cameras. Could it be that I need a new project? Does this mean I should sell all my gear?
