“I was born a poor black child, but it got better…”

I - the Cecily in cecily.info - was born in Atlanta, Georgia and spent 32 years of my life there before I high-tailed it to Vancouver, Canada as soon as the ink on my marriage license was dry. I have been a usability professional, college radio DJ (WRAS/Atlanta), a sometimes surly (but always well-intentioned) technical support representative, and violin player. It was my frustration with the way software was designed for the needs of programmers and highly technical users rather than the general public that led me to a career in user-centered design. It was my love of information, intellectual freedom, and service that pulled me back to librarianship. I am currently a virtual services librarian, a lover, not a fighter, and I am training to win a world record for toe-joint cracking.

I’ve been interested in photography ever since I got my first Polaroid camera at age 10, but in the last two years, it has provided me the creative spark I have been longing for ever since I quit playing the violin. I quit because I was entering high school and didn’t want to look like a dork. The three years I spent in JROTC were far dorkier, but at least I learned how to shoot a gun, and I got to brandish a saber!

I currently live in Vancouver, BC but I also spend a great deal of my time in my spiritual/emotional home - the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area. I blog here at cecily.info, and also infrequently at cecily.vox.com. If that isn’t enough, you can also find me online at heycecily.ca, follow me at twitter, or simply check out my FriendFeed.
