After six years as a customer, I’ve decided to leave Dreamhost. A while back, I signed up for Dreamhost’s Private Server hosting, primarily because I was curious to see if moving to private hosting would result in any performance gains for this website.
It didn’t.
When I asked Dreamhost to move me back, they said that because my site used too many resources, I wasn’t eligible to move back to shared hosting. I hadn’t added any new features or functions to the site after the switch, but apparently Dreamhost PS is like Amway – once you get in, it’s pretty darned hard to get back out.
Long story short, my hosting bills were averaging between $30 – $35/month at Dreamhost, which is about $40 Canadian, and I can’t afford that. I’ve moved to Bluefur, a small, local hosting company, to see if I’m happier here. I’m certainly happier with the price.
Until DNS has switched completely, you may notice a few oddities on the site. I’m hoping all will be back to normal by Monday. Thanks for your patience.
