It all started when I read Tony Hicks’ post in which he sang the praises of The Commodores and the awesomeness of the song “Sail On”:
As happens often, it sent me in search of some of my favorite Quiet Storm soul hits from the past. First up, Luther’s “Superstar”, which makes the tears start flowing every single time I listen to it:
(I have to say I preferred the chunky Luther to the slimmer version.)
For whatever reason, I can’t listen to Luther without thinking about Al Green (sadly, audio only):
And you can’t have a cryin’, beggin’, please-baby-baby-PLEASE soundtrack without the king of the begging singers, Lenny Williams (audio only):
People talking over intros or bridges of songs + strings + syrupy orchestration + Rick James + Teena Marie = awesome:
And I simply couldn’t put together a playlist like this without a little Chaka:
What would go on your old school Quiet Storm playlist?
