Raincoast Books to ditch publishing arm – One casualty of the strong Canadian dollar, the Vancouver-based company has announced that it is getting out of the publishing business. Other cost-cutting measures are planned.
Nancy Wilson, Quincy Jones join Oscar Peterson tribute – Canadian performers Measha Brueggergosman (she with the fabulous name and equally fabulous afro) and Gregory Charles will also appear to honor the musician who died at his home in Missisauga, ON on December 23. The tribute airs on CBC Radio One on Saturday, January 12 at 4:05 pm ET, and on Sirius 137. CBC Radio One streams internationally, and this is shaping up to be a is can’t-miss tribute.
Pixel: Photoshop for the Linux Crowd – I have a license for Photoshop and I use it quite a bit, but the ensuing sticker shock always makes me wish there were alternatives (and as nice as they are, Pixelmator and Acorn, while good, aren’t quite there yet). Pixel features a more Photoshop-like interface (a boon for anyone thinking of switching platforms) and at only $38 USD, costs roughly 1/10th of Photoshop’s retail price.
