Good to be back home again

wordpress logoI tried to change. I installed that other well-known blogging platform out of curiosity, and because I liked their community based offering (not the one that was recently sold). From the day that I first installed the beta, something felt wrong and out of place. I was lost, floundering, and realized that if I was (half) serious about getting back into blogging more frequently, changing systems in mid-stream probably wasn’t the best decision to make.
The problems I had were partly the fault of the system (woeful lack of documentation, and what documentation there is is spread out among many channels), and partly my own fault, as I like to get in and get my hands dirty. I like code that makes sense, and while I created XML documents and schemas in graduate school, child, that was a LONG time ago, and I needed a refresher course. Problem was, I couldn’t be arsed to take one.
Comments started appearing without moderation, while photo and video assets behaved inconsistently. The last straw was trying to upgrade to the new open source product and having the database rebuild fail not once, but twice. Odd that, considering that I didn’t touch the database between upgrades (except to back it up, per their instructions).
About two hours ago, I came back home. And I’ve never felt happier. In the meantime, you may find that tags are out of sorts and images may be missing. I’ll be spending the next little while getting the house back in order. Thank you for your patience.
