Golden Compass pulled from Calgary Catholic schools

As long as the province of Alberta exists, Canada will always have to hedge, hem, and haw when it comes to their perception as the most liberal and tolerant country on the North American continent. I’d been reading a bit about how the Catholic League has called for a boycott of the movie adaptation of The Golden Compass, but this is the first I’ve heard about the books being removed from libraries.
I want to hope that all of this negative press will only benefit the movie in the end. I want to believe that enough people have had enough of the Catholic League, their scare tactics, and the act of censorship as a whole that despite the (lukewarm) early reviews, people will see the film anyway, give it a great opening weekend, and support it enough so that the other two books in the series will see their film adaptations come to light.
