Dear Nikon,
Last year, you hired promotions firm MWW Group to promote awareness of your D80 camera. The firm developed the Picture This campaign, where a few (lucky) bloggers were provided with a free D80 to use as they saw fit for six to twelve months. Bloggers could post reviews (or not), post photos taken with it (or not), and loan the camera to others if they so desired. While I was not lucky enough to be chosen for the Picture This campaign, consider this letter a jump on the next campaign.
You see, I’m an avid amateur photographer. I use a Nikon D50 and a Nikon F80 (film!) for most of my work. While I have had varying degrees of success with my photography, I can honestly say that using a Nikon has greatly increased my enjoyment of this new hobby. The camera handles like no other which makes me feel like a more confident and competent photographer.
In August, you announced the introduction of the Nikon D300, a 12 megapixel prosumer DSLR that represents a significant advance in digital photography technology. The camera, available in November, has generated a great deal of interest in the media and among bloggers — we Nikon enthusiasts are salivating at the idea of the camera, and we haven’t even handled it yet.
While I still consider myself an amateur (in the most literal sense of the word), and while I may not represent the target demographic for the D300, I’d do nearly anything (legal) to get my hands on one of these cameras before anyone else. I’ll do what you want me to do, say what you want me to say (within reason) if only you’d do me the honor of loaning me a D300 for the next six months or so.
So, do we have a deal? Can you help a sister out?
Slavishly yours,
Cecily
