Commenting in Google News

08.23.2007

Am I late, or is this a new Google News feature?

googlenewscommentGoogle now adds links to comments from newsmakers (where available) to it’s news feeds. Neat.
Edit: G. tipped me to a Mashable.com post that explains how this feature works:

(I)f you search for your company or name and find stories, you can send an email to news-comments@google.com. Include your comment and contact details, plus a way to verify that you’re from that company – owning the email address me@relevantcompany.com may be enough (you need to reply to a mail sent there, not just spoof it – see the help section for more info). If approved by Google, your comment will appear beneath the story…

Knowing that the comments can be contributed by the newsmakers themselves (instead of aggregated from feeds the way most Google News stories are) makes this feature seem a little less cool, and a bit more of an opportunity for people to control the messaging and spin a news story to their advantage.
